1 Striving for the best in Swimming, Amateur Swimming Association Room R0.12 (Ramphal)

Swimming was the first major sport to experience a public scandal because of an abusive coach. This workshop will explain the measures put in place by the ASA since then and the changes these have brought about and reported in the research report 'In at the Deep End'.

2 Striving for the best in Gymnastics, British Gymnastics Room R0.14 (Ramphal)

British Gymnastics has recently conducted research into the effectiveness of its child protection work in gym clubs. This workshop will describe the programme and the research findings.

3 Striving for the best in Football, The Football Association Room R1.03 (Ramphal)

Football is the national sport in England and has instigated the biggest child protection programme, training over 100,000 people in the game. This workshop will describe the programme and the impact it has had on football.

4 Club sport in Coventry Room R1.04 (Ramphal)
[Facilitator: Greg Wade, Greater Warwickshire Sport]
The aim of this workshop is to guide you through the process of Clubmark, highlight the areas that clubs have had to concentrate their efforts on, and provide some examples of the benefits that clubs and young people have gained through achieving accreditation.

5 Welfare of children in Scottish sport, Children 1st/sportscotland Room R1.13 (Ramphal)

This workshop will take delegates through the Sportscotland and Children 1st in Scotland programme for safeguarding children in Scottish sport and discuss its plans for the next phase of work.

6 Leisurewatch, Derwent Room R1.15 (Ramphal)

Leisurewatch is a public protection scheme for leisure and sport centres, first developed in the north east of England. This workshop will explain how it works and what its measures of success have been.

7 The Safety and Empowerment of Children in Community Sport -Canada Room R2.41 (Ramphal)
[Facilitator: John Cooper, City of Kitchener]
The City of Kitchener in Ontario has developed a number of interventions to promote child safety in sport. This workshop will outline these interventions which include: volunteer management, behaviour management, ethical play (via the JustPlay programme), mediation services and the Leisure Buddies scheme for matching trained volunteers with young athletes with disabilities.

8 Risk assessment in recruiting and selecting staff and volunteers Room R3.41 (Ramphal)

This workshop will identify what steps should be taken when assessing information about an individual's background and their suitability for working with children and young people in sport.

9 Developing the designated welfare officer in sport Room S0.11 (Social Studies Building)

This workshop will focus on the role of the designated welfare officer and how they can be developed and supported. It will examine a training programme that has been developed to support the establishment of this important role.

10 Safe Sports Events Room S0.13 (Social Studies Building)
[Facilitator: XXXXX, CPSU]
This workshop will look at what steps should be taken when planning and operating sports events involving children and young people. It will examine the welfare plan and the roles and responsibilities required.
